Law Firm Marketing Benchmarks: 2026 Edition
The numbers law firms actually pay, from someone who sees the invoices. Compiled from 15+ years of campaigns for attorneys and solicitors across the US, UK, and Ireland.
Most published legal marketing benchmarks come from surveys or software vendors. These come from managed campaigns: real budgets, real auctions, real signed cases across hundreds of firms through Juris Digital and my consulting work. Where a number is a range, the spread is real. Your market position inside that range depends on competition, not wishful thinking.
Monthly marketing budgets by market size
What it takes to compete meaningfully, not just participate. Personal injury runs higher than other practice areas in every tier.
| Market size | Personal injury | Other practice areas |
|---|---|---|
| Small market (under 500K population) | $5,000–$15,000/month | $3,000–$8,000/month |
| Mid size market (500K–2M) | $15,000–$40,000/month | $8,000–$20,000/month |
| Major market (2M+) | $40,000–$150,000+/month | $20,000–$50,000+/month |
Trying to compete in a major PI market on $2,000 per month does not work. Budget must be proportional to competition, or the money is better spent elsewhere.
Cost per click benchmarks
Google Ads costs for legal keywords. These are auction prices, so they move with competition and season.
| Segment | Typical CPC |
|---|---|
| Personal injury (major metro) | $300–$700+ |
| Personal injury (smaller markets) | $100–$300 |
| Legal keywords broadly (competitive markets) | $100–$700+ |
Sending a $500 click to your homepage is malpractice. Every ad group needs a dedicated landing page. More in the law firm PPC guide.
Sample channel allocation ($20K/month growth budget)
The split I use as a starting point for a growth stage firm in a competitive market. It shifts with your strengths: a firm with 500 reviews needs less reputation spend and more content.
| Channel | Monthly | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Google Ads | $8,000 | 40% |
| Local Services Ads | $3,000 | 15% |
| SEO and content | $5,000 | 25% |
| Reputation management | $2,000 | 10% |
| Social media and other | $2,000 | 10% |
40–60%
of clicks on local intent searches go to the map pack, before any organic result
$50K–$500K+
in fees from a single personal injury case, which is why the auctions are brutal
$10M+
in legal PPC spend behind these numbers
Where these numbers come from
Ranges are compiled from campaigns managed through Juris Digital and my consulting engagements with law firms in the US, UK, and Ireland, cross checked against published auction data. They are planning ranges, not quotes. UK and Irish solicitor markets typically land toward the lower end of each range because auction competition is thinner, though Dublin and London personal injury keywords are catching up fast. This page is updated as the data changes.
